About the Conference

The UG Sakai @ 10 Conference commemorates ten years of transformative digital learning through the Sakai Learning Management System (LMS) at the University of Ghana. This two-day event brings together educators, technologists, students, and EdTech leaders to reflect on UG’s Sakai journey and explore the future of open-source education in Africa.

Under the theme “Digital Learning: Reflecting on a Decade of the Sakai LMS Journey at the University of Ghana,” the conference offers a platform for thought-provoking keynotes, dynamic panels, and interactive sessions centred on innovation, inclusion, and institutional transformation in higher education.

About Sakai LMS at UG

The Sakai Learning Management System (LMS) was adopted by the University of Ghana in 2014 as part of its strategy to modernise teaching and learning through digital platforms. As an open-source, community-driven platform, Sakai offered UG the flexibility to tailor learning environments to the needs of both faculty and students.

Over the past decade, Sakai has become central to the academic experience at UG, supporting course delivery, student engagement, assessment, and collaboration across the university’s colleges and departments. Its resilience during moments of disruption and its adaptability for various learning styles have made it a cornerstone of UG’s digital education strategy.
